Tasting notes by Serge Dubs, World's Best Sommelier 1989 :

Attractively young fresh pale ruby-red colour, like wild raspberry, red cherry and ripe morello, nicely bright yet hardly translucent.

The bouquet is frank and easily approachable, with pleasant young fresh soft fruit aromas, bilberry, morello, raspberry, woodland mayflower and Virginia tobacco leaf, soft and harmonious.

This same fine balance can be found on the palate, the wine is elegant and easy to drink, with just enough tannin to provide structure. It fills the mouth with flavour and has an agreeably refreshing aftertaste.

A textbook example of a quality Pinot Noir, frank and engaging.

A wine to drink young, within the next two years, served at 14 to 16°C.

An easy drinking wine to enjoy with country food, sausage, ham, grilled meat, also smoked, grilled or poached fish, and with white meat.

Pinot Noir Classic 2013

AOC Alsace

Made from the famous grape variety of Burgundy, this agreeable red wine presents a distinctive Alsace character. Supple, with intense fruit, it can be drunk with charcuterie, red meat and cheese.

Quick View :
Pinot Noir now represents 8% of the total production of Alsace and with global warming the wines are steadily gaining in density.

The vintage :
Rarely have we seen a vintage subject to so many variations in the weather.
The season started late with a damp spring and coulure, causing a smaller than usual crop.
High temperatures and exceptional summer weather brought the grapes to perfect levels of maturity.
Right from the start of our harvest on 1 October the grapes were very healthy and ripe, and so 2013 was a classic Alsace vintage of intense, pure, well balanced wines. Uneven weather at the very end of the harvest prevented any significant production of Late Harvest wines.

In the vineyard :
Harvested in the first days of harvest, exclusively by hand, from clay and limestone vineyards in a dozen of the most favoured localities in and around Riquewihr. A cool and long growing season give this unique dry wine great finesse and balanced intensity.

Winemaking :
The grapes are taken in small tubs to the winery, they are 100% destemmed and macerated for 6 to 7 days. After malo-lactic fermentation, the wine is matured in vats until it is bottled in early summer the following year.
The bottles are then aged in our cellars until released for sale.
The whole production of this wine is closed with DIAM the cork without the risk of cork taint.

Alcohol content : 12.18

Grapes :
Pinot Noir : 100%
