Tasting notes by Serge Dubs, World's Best Sommelier 1989 :

Griotte cherry red in colour, with a little hint of purple, lively and youthful in appearance.
It has a pure, clean, open, floral, aromatic soft fruit bouquet of cherry, wild raspberry and cranberry.
Pleasant, agreeable, easy to enjoy, it is light and delicately refreshing on the palate, full of flavour and with a nice ripe fruit aftertaste.
An easy-drinking light red wine to enjoy at its youthful best within two years, lightly chilled at 15°C, with grilled meat, roast poultry, pot-au-feu, charcuterie etc.

Pinot Noir HUGEL 2004

AOC Alsace

Made from the famous grape variety of Burgundy, this agreeable red wine presents a distinctive Alsace character. Supple, with intense fruit, it can be drunk with charcuterie, red meat and cheese.

Quick View :
Pinot Noir now represents 8% of the total production of Alsace and with global warming the wines are steadily gaining in density.

The vintage :
The years go by, but each is different from the last. After a 2003 vintage that was one of the earliest ever recorded, but with greatly reduced volumes and low acidity, 2004 was a much more "normal" vintage. The grapes were remarkably healthy to begin with, levels of acidity were excellent, and a comfortable volume was forecast.
After a generally damp summer, exceptionally fine weather in September sealed the destiny of this vintage, before conditions deteriorated from mid-October onwards.

In the vineyard :
Harvested exclusively by hand from clay and limestone vineyards in a dozen of the most favoured localities in and around Riquewihr.

Winemaking :
The grapes are taken in small tubs to the winery, they are 100% destemmed and macerated for 6 to 7 days. After malo-lactic fermentation, the wine is matured in vats until it is bottled in early summer the following year.
The bottles are then aged in our cellars until released for sale.
